Moffat Beach Comes Alive

What a wonderful evening we shared at the recent Moffat Beach Street Party! With the gallery staying open late, we welcomed a steady stream of visitors through our doors, giving many people the opportunity to discover the artwork created by Seaview artists.

The vibrant atmosphere throughout the terrace was infectious, with street performers, live entertainment and the buzz of a community coming together to celebrate everything that makes Moffat Beach so special. Locals and visitors to the Sunny Coast filled the streets, creating a warm, festive energy that was enjoyed by everyone.

Events like these are a wonderful reminder of the importance of supporting local businesses and the arts. We were delighted to see Seaview Terrace thriving, with cafés, restaurants, shops and galleries all benefiting from the increased foot traffic.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by the gallery. We love sharing our artists' work with you and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Behind the Scenes and the Work, You Don't Always See

When visitors walk through the gallery, they see beautifully presented artwork, fresh white walls and thoughtfully curated exhibitions. What they don't always see is the countless hours of work that go into creating that experience.

Maintaining a gallery is an ongoing labour of love. Walls are continually being maintained and painted to provide the perfect backdrop for each new artwork. Plinths need sanding, painting and repairing after years of displaying sculptures and ceramics. The artworks are constantly changing, with artwork carefully curated, rehung and repositioned as artists move into different spaces in the gallery. It is a never-ending cycle that requires creativity, practical skills and a dedicated team of volunteers.

This month we would like to extend our sincere thanks to gallery member Deborah Mangan and her husband, Len, for the wonderful renovation work they recently completed on the gallery's back wall. Their time, generosity and craftsmanship have greatly improved the space and created an even more professional setting for our artists' work.

Additionally, special recognition to artist Brett McIntosh, whose ingenuity and carpentry skills continue to benefit the gallery. Brett is forever finding creative solutions to overcome obstacles, constructing display walls where none existed, adapting spaces and improving our exhibition areas so that every member has the opportunity to exhibit their work professionally. His willingness to lend his expertise behind the scenes has made a significant difference to both the gallery and the presentation of our artwork.

A successful gallery is about much more than the artwork on the walls. It is built on the generosity, skills and commitment of the people who quietly contribute their time and talents. To Deborah, Len, Brett, and to all our members who help keep the gallery looking its very best, thank you. Your efforts are deeply appreciated and are an essential part of what makes our gallery such a welcoming and inspiring place to visit.

Feature Artist

Born in New Zealand, Pauline has lived, worked and studied in Australia for more than 45 years. A wire artist and qualified gemmologist, her path to becoming a valued member of Seaview Artists Gallery has been shaped by a lifetime of learning, travel and creative exploration.

Pauline qualified as a gemmologist in Canberra in 1975. At a time when opportunities in the field were limited, she accepted a position at the Australian National University as Coordinator of Professional Updating and Further Education courses. Over the following decade she developed and introduced new educational programs across a wide range of university disciplines. Her work also took her to the University of California, Los Angeles, where she spent several months researching new approaches to continuing education. She later coordinated programs throughout Australia and New Zealand for visiting lecturers from the United States.

Her academic journey continued with Arts and Law degrees from Monash University. She completed her legal articles in Darwin, working as Associate to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory.

Throughout these varied careers, one passion remained constant. Rocks, gemstones and lapidary work had fascinated Pauline from an early age, and what began as a lifelong hobby gradually evolved into her artistic practice.

While living in Hawaii, Pauline found the inspiration that would define her work today. Influenced by local artists and wearable art courses presented by lecturers from the Smithsonian Institution, she combined traditional stone cutting with intricate wire techniques to create distinctive handcrafted jewellery and sculptural pieces. The combination of carefully selected gemstones and detailed wirework has become her signature style.

For the past 20 years, Pauline has travelled regularly to Tucson, Arizona, home to the world's largest gem shows. These annual visits allow her to source exceptional gemstones while connecting with artists and makers from around the world, continually expanding her knowledge and refining her craft.

More than 16 years ago, Pauline made the Sunshine Coast her home and has been a member of Seaview Artists Gallery for the past 10 years. Her work reflects decades of experience, curiosity and craftsmanship, bringing together the natural beauty of gemstones with the precision of hand-formed wire. Each piece is individually created and tells the story of a lifetime devoted to learning, making and discovering.

One of the pleasures of being an artist is the freedom to experiment and explore new ideas, and gallery member Deborah Mangan is currently immersed in a series of works inspired by negative space, shape, colour and the natural world.

By sharing images from her studio, Deborah offers a glimpse into the creative process behind her paintings. Rather than concentrating solely on the finished piece, she is experimenting with the relationship between positive and negative space, allowing the negative areas of the canvas to become just as important as the painted forms themselves.

Through pattern, repetition, colour and composition, Deborah is developing paintings that celebrate the rhythms and beauty found in nature.

It is always fascinating to see an artwork evolve from its earliest stages, and we look forward to sharing Deborah's completed series as it continues to take shape.
